Balayage

Top Balayage Looks At Melanie Richard’s Hair & Beauty Salon In Peterborough

It’s no secret that Balayage has been a game-changer and remains amongst the most asked for hair colouring technique in our Peterborough hair salon.

Whether you want to stand out from the crowd with a daring fashion coloured balayage, or fancy a classic rich, chocolatey brunette balayage with some face-framing highlights – the hair colour specialists in Peterborough at Melanie Richard’s have you covered!

Skin Testing

Please note: we are a colour responsible salon. A skin sensitivity test must be carried out at least 48 hours before any colour that will touch the scalp to protect you from a reaction to the colour. It can not be done more than 5 days before your hair colour appointment.

The skin test will also need to be carried out every 6 months. If it is more than 6 months since your last colour if you have had a tattoo, henna tattoo or permanent make-up since your last colour. Alternatively, you can purchase Skin Patch Test Kits. These cost £5. Full details here.

We will send an email reminder if it is more than 6 months since your last test with us a week before your appointment.

Balayage Highlights

So, why is balayage & ombré the most asked for hair colour trend? Balayage is a great alternative to an all over hair colour and the more traditional highlighting techniques. The word ‘balayage’ means to “sweep” in French.

The balayage colouring technique allows your Melanie Richard’s hair colour expert to hand paint subtle, highlights throughout your hair using a free hand technique. These natural highlights are usually a few shades lighter than your hair colour so we can effortlessly transition the colour from root to tip.

Balayage hair colour options are endless – from warm, caramel blonde tones, to golden brown shades, ash blonde hair colours and vibrant copper reds.

Babylights & Root Stretch

No, babylights are super fine highlights, they are soft, subtle and almost undetectable. Babylights are often used around the face and hair line to break up any hard lines or blocks of colour. Root stretching or root shadowing is where a darker shade of colour is applied to the root area and smudged down the hair to blend with the balayage highlights.

What Do I Need to do Before I Visit The Hair Salon For My Colour Appointment?

Prior to your colour appointment, we recommend you visit us for a complimentary hair colour consultation so you can talk to your stylist about your ideas. We can give you advice and explain the process, time and costs involved to achieve your look.

A hair strand test may also be taken to assess how well your hair will take the colour you desire.  We also do a skin test at least 48 hours before your hair colour.

If the hair isn’t in a condition we feel could handle the colour straight away, we may advise a course of Olaplex treatments to rebuild the hair.
